Head of Engineering
About Snapback Sports
Snapback Sports is a fast-growing sports media company creating the coolest shit in sports. With over 4M+ followers across platforms, Snapback is building the future of sports entertainment. Our flagship product, Snapback Trivia, is a mobile sports trivia app. The app is approaching a major growth phase, with a goal of scaling from 100,000 to 1,000,000 downloads by the end of the year. Beyond trivia, our roadmap includes a platform to help sports fans get to games more easily, as well as potential ventures into ticketing, live events, and other sports verticals.
We are an AI-first company.
Our Tech Stack
- Mobile: React Native with Expo (iOS & Android),
- Backend: Firebase
- Analytics: Amplitude
- Design & UI: Figma, Storybook
The Opportunity
We are looking for a cracked engineer who loves sports, embraces AI head-on, and wants to build the biggest products in Sports. The Head of Engineering will become the technical leader of Snapback Sports. This is not a managerial role sitting in meetings all day. This is a hands-on builder who will own our entire technical stack, lead product vision, write code daily, and ship features at startup speed. You will be the person who takes our trivia app to 1M downloads and then builds the next wave of Snapback products.
We are transitioning from an external agency model to in-house engineering leadership. The reason is simple: we need to move significantly faster. We need someone who lives and breathes the product, can make decisions autonomously, leverages AI to 10x their output, and is passionate about sports and building things people love.
What You'll Do
Product & Engineering Leadership
- Own the entire technical stack for Snapback Trivia and future products end-to-end
- Lead product strategy and roadmap in close collaboration with the CEO
- Make autonomous technical decisions quickly without waiting for approvals or sprint ceremonies
- Be the bridge between our content/media team and the technology that powers our products
Hands-On Development
- Write production code daily in our React Native (Expo) mobile app across iOS and Android
- Build and maintain backend services on Firebase and Google Cloud
- Ship features fast: multiplayer modes, live game experiences, new game types, and gamification systems
- Implement analytics (Amplitude), push notifications, deep linking, OTA updates, and growth-driving features
AI-First Engineering
- Use AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) as core parts of your development workflow with thoughtful, context-rich prompting
- Architect systems with AI assistance to build faster than traditional engineering teams — we care about how you think and prompt, not just that you use the tools
- Identify opportunities to integrate AI into the product experience itself
- Stay on the cutting edge of AI-assisted development and bring new tools/techniques to the team
Growth & Scale
- Drive the trivia app from 100K to 1M downloads through product-led growth features
- Build viral mechanics: save-a-streak sharing, social challenges, competitive leaderboards
- Optimize app store presence, onboarding flows, and retention loops
- Lay the technical foundation for future products (SBX platform, ticketing, live events)
Who You Are
Must-Haves
- Full-stack engineer comfortable across mobile (React Native/Expo), frontend, and backend (Firebase/Google Cloud)
- AI-native: you already use AI coding tools daily and are thoughtful with your prompting — you deeply understand the business and product context behind what you’re building, not just the code
- Strong product sense: you think deeply about user experience when prototyping and building — the new engineering leader isn’t just a technical beast but someone who completely understands the business and product
- Genuinely passionate about sports (you don't need to know every stat, but you need to care)
- Self-starter who thrives with autonomy and moves fast without being told what to do
- Excellent communicator who can translate technical concepts for a non-technical team
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience scaling a consumer app from early stage to hundreds of thousands or millions of users
- Background in gaming, gamification, or social/community products
- Experience with real-time systems and multiplayer features
- Experience with product analytics platforms
- A personal brand or following in tech or sports (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, etc.)
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $150,000 to $200,000, depending on experience
- Equity participation available
- Remote-first
- AI tools and subscriptions provided
- Health Benefits
Why Snapback Sports?
This is a rare opportunity to serve as the technical co-pilot for a company at an inflection point. Snapback has the audience, the content machine, and the ambition. What we need is a technical leader who can build the products that turn a media company into a platform. If you want to build something that millions of sports fans use, work directly with the founder, and have real ownership of the company's technical direction, this is your role.
Interview Process
We don’t believe in traditional take-home assignments — AI has changed the game. Instead, our process is designed to see how you actually think and build:
- Intro call — Get to know each other, talk product vision, and see if there’s mutual fit
- Live co-dev session (1–2 hours) — Spin up a new game feature or prototype live, using your AI coding tools of choice. We want to see how you prompt, how you think about the user experience, and how you approach building a real product — not just whether you can write code
- Final conversation — Deep dive on product roadmap, working style, and alignment
